ABOUT MOROCCAN RUGS & KILIMS

On my first trip to Morocco, I discovered the beautiful High Atlas Mountain Berber rugs.  I found them to be the most colorful and beautiful tribal rugs I had seen. The high Atlas wool was so thick and lanolin rich, the rugs seemed to have a glow. My first trip to the village of Tazenakht, where they are woven, was completed via a donkey's back. Obtaining even a handful of these carpets, during those times required traveling to the village weavers and waiting, sometimes, months for pieces to be finished.

Today the city of Tazenakht bustles with weaving co-ops and artisan centers, producing the same high quality weavings. People from all over the world still seek these tribal beauties so supply still hasn't kept up with demand. Unlike the more commercially produced rugs of the cities of Rabat and Fez, the High Atlas rugs are woven by the mom's of the villager's, primarily for tribal use. Woven, totally by hand, out of the finest hand spun wool, each Moroccan Berber rug is a one of a kind work of art. Many of the High Atlas Moroccan rugs incorporate a knotted pile weave with a kilim flat weave, adding another dimension to the beauty of the piece.

My direct connections with the High Atlas weaver's and my thirty years experience in finding the best Moroccan weavings allows me to bring this collection of Moroccan berber rugs and tribal kilims to you at a nominal cost. I also have a wide selection of antique and semi-antique pieces.
